When a patient loses consciousness, regardless of the cause, it is essential to maintain a patent airway. One of the most common causes of airway obstruction in an unconscious patient is the tongue. Once a person loses consciousness, the tongue can fall to the back of the throat and block the patient's airway. The use of an oropharyngeal airway is an effective way to maintain an open airway, allowing you to ventilate the patient effectively if necessary.<\/p>

\u2013 The main indication for the use of an oropharyngeal airway is if the patient is at risk of airway obstruction due to relaxation of the upper airway muscles or blockage of the airway with the tongue.<\/p>

\u2013 Use of an oropharyngeal airway can prevent airway occlusion.<\/p>

\u2013 Oral airways can only be used in the unconscious patient.<\/p>

    Instructions for use:<\/strong><\/p>

    1. Perform hand hygiene.<\/li>
    2. Wash your hands with soap and warm water. Dry well. Put on gloves and aprons.<\/li>
    3. The victim should be helped to adopt a position that is comfortable for them; It is normally seated or supported at a 45\u00b0 angle.<\/li>
    4. Raise the bed to a comfortable height for working.<\/li>
    5. Select the appropriate Guedel airway size by measuring the OPA from the victim's earlobe to the corner of the mouth and select the appropriate size to avoid excessive insertion.<\/li>
    6. If possible, lubricate the airway before insertion (practically, in emergency situations, this is rarely done).<\/li>
